Froback Friday: Jurassic 5- Concrete Schoolyard

In this day and age, what makes a song a throwback? As editor, I’m proclaiming “old school” as before 2000. Partially to give myself options, but also because the late 90s brought forth some of the best hip hop music to date. My first Froback Friday as editor barely makes the cute. Jurassic 5’s “Concrete Schoolyard” was released on their self-titled debut album in 1998.

They didn’t actually make their major label debut until Quality Control was released in 2000. It’s too bad, because the date will not allow us to use any of the album’s great tracks (“The Influence” is a personal favorite of mine). The group disbanded after their 2006 album Feedback, but did reunite April of 2014 for the UK’s Glastonbury Festival. This came after an announcement of a new studio album.
