Anderson Paak and Knxwledge dropped their collaborative album ‘Yes Lawd!’ one week early and there’s a ‘Rick and Morty’ sample on one of the new tracks.
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again: Anderson Paak is my favorite rapper of 2016. But with his sample of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty on his new album Yes Lawd! he once more proved why.
The nineteen-track album is an enjoyable listen on Apple Music. But the track that caught my attention for an immediate second play had little to do with the actual music and instead was more inspired by the sample at the end of the song.
While producer Knxwledge undoubtedly deserves credit for audio samples on this record, it’s hard not to notice the excellent “Can’t Stop” outro from Rick and Morty.

The scene (video above) is one of my all-time favorites from the Adult Swim cartoon. Here’s the full transcript sampled in the song:

"“Get your s*** together. Get it all together and put it in a backpack with all your s*** so it’s together. And if you gotta take it somewhere, take it somewhere. You know? Take it to the s*** store and sell it. Or put it in a s*** museum, I don’t care what you do. You just gotta get it together.”"
As the song transitions to the next beat, I couldn’t help but laugh and want to rewatch the most recent two seasons of the brilliant show.
If you have the same urge, however, I’d advise you to finish the album before you queue up the cartoon. Paak is good for the soul, especially in dark times.
Meanwhile, Rick and Morty will reportedly release season three “sooner than expected” so get excited for that.
