As the world celebrated the televised 2018 BET Hip-Hop Awards ceremony yesterday evening (October 16) in all its hip-hop and Cypher glory, Cardi B rapped and twerked her way to winning four awards, reminding us why she’s at top of the charts. As if we could forget.
“And she just had a baby with that bangin’ body?!” most fans exclaimed after seeing the scantily clad, camouflage performance. Going home with four awards for ‘Best Featured Verse,’ ‘Made You Look,’ ‘Hustler Of The Year,’ and ‘MVP Of The Year,’ Cardi B dominated the charts, the trophies, and the twerking in 2018 earning her performance of the night at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.
Cardi B’s hard to forget. She first earned our respect and adoration with her charming, endearing, authentic, and outrageous personality when she popped up on the scene in 2015 with her role in VH1’s Love and Hip Hop: New York.
Since that time, she’s married rapper Offset, had a baby, performed at SNL, and made her rounds through award ceremonies and late night talk show circuits, racking up more fans, more trophies, more admirers, more titles under her belt, and a massive net worth.
By being her original self, she clawed her way to top, achieving more than your average 26-year-old and like she told you last night, “the only thing fake is the boobs.”
Last week we saw her at the American Music Awards for a performance of her Billboard no. 1 hit “I like It” with Bad Bunny. In case you didn’t know, Cardi, who’s birth name is Belcalis Almánzar, is the first female rapper in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to gain two number one hits.
Two. Not one but two. Slay!
Love her or love not – but how could you not – she “knows how to go and get a bag.” Last night she opened her performance with “Get Up 10” off of her debut studio album “Invasion of Privacy.” Joined by Pardison Fontaine, she twerked her way through her latest track “Backin’ It Up.”
And that she did – earning her performance of the night. Bravo, Cardi.
