Hip-hop has lost an icon. As per TMZ, record producer and executive Irv Gotti passed away on Wednesday, February 5, at 54 years old. Although the cause of his death wasn’t revealed, Gotti has been dealing with health issues since he suffered a stroke in August 2024. He co-founded Murder Inc. Records and helped discover some top-tier artists like Jay-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule.
Apart from being a successful record producer and music executive, Gotti was also known for his feud with 50 Cent. The G-Unit rapper feuded with Ja Rule as well, and he considered both men a package deal in his beef with them.
Although it’s been decades since Fif won his battle with Rule, he still holds a grudge against him and Gotti.
Fif’s issues with Gotti and Murder Inc. run deep. In the year 2000, members of the G-Unit crew and Murder Inc. were involved in a fight at the Hit Factory Studio in New York. And 50 ended up being stabbed by Murder Inc. rapper Black Child during the melee.

When Fif got shot nine times in May 2000, in front of his grandma’s house in South Jamaica, Queens, people affiliated with Murder Inc. and close to Gotti were alleged to be involved. Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff, a former drug dealer, and some associates of Murder Inc. were accused of plotting to kill 50, according to a federal investigation.
While Gotti wasn’t specifically named in the investigation, his close friendship with McGriff gave 50 all the reason he needed to beef with him.
Then when Gotti had a stroke last year, 50 took shots at him on Instagram. In short, he hoped Gotti would recover from his health scare, so he could witness his future success. "Damn homie, in high school you was the man homie, WTF happened to you?" wrote 50, quoting the lyrics to his song "Wanksta." "I want Irv to get well, so he can watch my next wave. LOL," he added.

When the news of Gotti’s death surfaced, Fif once again took to Instagram to share a post, and he certainly didn't mourn. In fact, he posted a picture of himself smoking a hookah pipe on a couch with a tombstone next to him, which read “RIP.” Fif captioned the post, “I’m smoking on dat Gotti pack, nah God bless him. LOL.”

The rap star has been criticized by some people for his “insensitive” comment on Gotti’s death. However, there are some who believe that his actions are justified because he could’ve lost his life back in the day due to Murder Inc. Whatever the case may be, we know that 50 Cent isn’t one to forgive his enemies.
As for Gotti's health, he had a troubled history with diabetes. His representative informed TMZ that he was working on his diet since last year's stroke.
