On June 21, XXL announced its famed Freshman Class for 2023. A dozen up and coming hip hop artists were included in the 2023 XXL Freshman Class. The producer/beat maker for the 2023 XXL Freshman Class will be Pi'erre Bourne.

This issue of XXL Magazine for the 2023 Freshman Class will hit stores and newsstands on July 18.

The write-up from XXL on the announcement of the 2023 Freshman Class mentioned that we'll be getting "freestyles, cyphers, interviews and more with each Freshman" over the course of the next month or so.

The Freshman Class for 2023 was narrowed down from 80 candidates to a dozen. While the process of selecting the artists for this Freshman Class wasn't explained in the article announcing the group for 2023, here's what the selection process was explained to be for 2022.

"Before XXL’s staff selected the members of this year’s class, there were daily meetings with nearly 100 of the best and brightest rap neophytes. Witnessing an artist’s impact, listening to new music, keeping note of plans for the year, plus Zoom and in-person conversations that launched in January and came to an end in April helped the team narrow down the choices."

There were plenty of deserving artists among the dozen that were included for the 2023 XXL Freshman Class. But there were also some snubs that were deserving of being in the mix in their own right among the 80 that were mentioned to be in consideration by XXL in 2023.
