The winner of the famed "10th Spot" in the 2023 XXL Freshman Class went to the versatile Milwaukee, WI, native singer, songwriter, and rapper DC The Don. It was good to see an up-and-coming artist in their early 20s from hip-hop's underground, that also has some obvious punk and emo influences and aesthetics in the music, get the fan support to make it in the XXL Freshman Class.

But the fact of the matter is that there were other artists that fit in a similar category as DC The Don that were deserving of making it on the cover for the XXL Freshman Class in 2023.

Among the artists that were considered for the 2023 XXL Freshman Class that are generating a lot of buzz of late among dynamic underground hip-hop artists, Eem Triplin was someone deserving of being in this group.

The Pennsylvania native singer, rapper, and songwriter Eem Triplin has started to gain more mainstream traction in the last six months thanks to his versatile delivery and distinct singing/rapping voice. Eem Triplin has proven to be able to float on tracks with beats ranging from pop rap production to popping off on rage beats with banging 808s and outlandish synthesizers.

From a popularity perspective, Eem Triplin definitely has a following worthy of consideration from XXL in this Freshman Class. He now has more than 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, which is a larger number than roughly half of the dozen Freshman. Eem Triplin also has three songs that were released since spring 2022 that now have more than 20 million plays each on Spotify.

Despite him not getting the nod in the 2023 XXL Freshman Class, Eem Triplin is a name to watch that is starting to get more mainstream traction and popularity with well-received recent singles that dropped in 2022 and 2023 such as "Awkward Freestyle" and "Tell Me I'm Right".
