Quavo, the Migos frontman, has never been one to shy away from self-assuredness. But in his latest track, “Himothy,” he takes it to a whole new level. Released on streaming services today, this fiery single showcases Quavo’s swagger and lyrical prowess.

The Himothy hype

"Himothy" rises above Buddha Bless's production as Quavo urges everyone to refrain from probing about Takeoff's passing and allow his nephew to rest peacefully. The sorrowful departure of Takeoff, fatally shot outside a Houston bowling alley in November 2022, continues to burden Quavo's thoughts.

But it’s the name-drop that has everyone talking. Quavo boldly compares himself to none other than Jay-Z. In the track, he spits,

"Havin’ plenty of dog s–t, go DMX / I’m goin’ all gold bottles / I’m the Nawfside Shawn Carter (Quay-Z). "

The audacity of this comparison has fans buzzing and critics raising their eyebrows.

Quavo’s Solo Journey

This isn’t Quavo’s first solo venture. In 2023, he delivered his second solo album, “Rocket Power,” dedicated to Takeoff. The album debuted at No. 18 on the Billboard 200, selling approximately 33,000 album units in its first week. Quavo’s momentum continues into 2024 with “Himothy,” a track that aims to solidify his place in hip-hop history.

As a solo artist, Quavo has made significant strides. He has guest-performed on six Billboard Hot 100 top ten singles, including hits like Post Malone’s “Congratulations”Justin Bieber’s “Intentions”, and DJ Khaled’s “No Brainer”.

His debut studio album, “Quavo Huncho” (2018), peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and featured the platinum-certified single “Workin Me”. His second album, “Rocket Power” (2023), reached number 18 on the same chart and was released in memory of Takeoff, who tragically lost his life the year prior.

Despite the challenges of going solo after Migos disbanded, Quavo continues to make his mark in the music industry. His career trajectory remains closely watched by fans and industry insiders alike.

The Atlanta connection

As the Jay-Z of Atlanta, Quavo is positioning himself as a legend in the making. His confidence knows no bounds, and he’s not afraid to claim the throne. But can he truly live up to the iconic status of Jay-Z? Only time will tell.

Listen to “HIMOTHY” below and decide for yourself. Is Quavo the next Jay-Z, or is he just stirring the pot? Either way, this track is a must-listen for hip-hop enthusiasts everywhere.
