Sons of Anarchy, the gripping action drama that followed the lives of motorcycle gang members, became a phenomenon in the late '00s and early '10s. With its intense storytelling and memorable characters, the show captured the hearts of viewers and became the highest-rated series in FX’s history at the time.

But did you know that there was one A-list music industry star who could’ve been part of the show? Series creator Kurt Sutter recently revealed his original vision for the cast, and it involved none other than the iconic rapper and producer, Dr. Dre.

The unfulfilled role

In a video podcast with show star Katey Sagal, who portrayed Gemma Teller Morrow throughout the series, Sutter shared his thoughts on casting Dr. Dre. The rapper was considered for the role of police officer Eli Roosevelt, a character with a pivotal role during seasons 4 through 6. Sutter admitted,

"We actually wanted Dre. I don’t know if we officially made an offer, but we wanted him. We thought it would be cool to have Dre play a cop, for Roosevelt."

Ultimately, the role of Roosevelt went to actor Rockmond Dunbar. Dunbar, known for his work in shows like Prison BreakThe Path, and 9-1-1, brought his own charisma and presence to the character. However, it’s intriguing to imagine how Dr. Dre’s unique energy and background in music would have influenced the portrayal of a law enforcement officer within the gritty world of Sons of Anarchy.

Dr. Dre’s on-screen journey

While Dr. Dre is best known for his hit-making rap career and production work, he has also dabbled in acting. His filmography includes minor roles in iconic movies such as Set It Off and Training Day. Additionally, he starred alongside fellow rapper Snoop Dogg in the beloved 2001 comedy The Wash.

Sutter’s revelation about wanting Dr. Dre in the show adds another layer of intrigue to the Sons of Anarchy legacy. Although the rapper didn’t join the cast, his impact on the entertainment industry remains undeniable.
