Dr. Dre puts Eminem in a league of his own: The unbeatable white rapper

Dr. Dre, the legendary rapper and record producer, has never been one to mince words. In a recent interview on SiriusXM’s This Life of Mine with James Corden, Dre dropped a bombshell: he firmly believes that Eminem, the “Lose Yourself” icon, is the greatest MC of all time. And yes, you read that right—despite being a “White guy.”

A chance encounter that changed hip-hop forever

Dre reminisced about their first meeting, back in the late '90s.

"I was just starting this new thing with Aftermath Records,” he explained. “I was working on my second solo album, and it was just okay."

Dre spent Sundays at record executive Jimmy Iovine’s house, soaking in new music. That’s when he stumbled upon a demo that would alter the course of hip-hop history.

"He played this artist—Eminem—and I had no idea he was a white guy at the time,” Dre recalled. But recognition dawned, and he couldn’t get enough. “I took it home with me, and I couldn’t stop playing this s—. Jimmy called me the next day and said, ‘You know it’s a white guy, right?"

Eminem’s imagination knows no bounds

Dre’s admiration for Eminem extends beyond their initial collaboration.

"His imagination is off the charts,” Dre asserted. “I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. I think he’s the best MC ever. Point blank, period."

And while debates may rage on, Dre stands firm:

"Of course, there are going to be arguments because he’s a white guy. But I don’t think anyone rapping can touch Eminem on that microphone."

The birth of a dynamic duo

Their partnership birthed iconic tracks like “My Name Is,” which catapulted Eminem into the spotlight. Released as the lead single from The Slim Shady LP, the song marked Eminem’s first top-40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. It also snagged a Grammy Award for best rap solo performance.
