Kendrick Lamar, a highly influential rapper of his era, is all set to kick off a new music festival series that aspires to bring top-notch live events to the African continent. The festival, called Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience, is a joint initiative between Lamar's creative imprint, pgLang, and Global Citizen, an international advocacy organization that strives to campaign for social justice and poverty eradication.

What is Move Afrika?

Move Afrika is a long-term, large-scale initiative that will pioneer a first-of-its-kind international music touring circuit throughout Africa, showcasing the best African culture and creativity to the world. The festival will also drive transformative investments within local communities, engage local artists, vendors, agencies, and crews, and provide opportunities for on-the-job skill development and training.


Move Afrika
is excited to introduce a dynamic citizen-led advocacy campaign that seeks to inspire urgent action and drive bold commitments from world leaders on pressing issues affecting Africa. This campaign will cover a range of important topics, including health, climate, food security, economic opportunities, and civic participation, all of which are critical to Africa's growth and development. By bringing together citizens from across the continent, we can ensure that our voices are heard and that the necessary steps are taken to create a better future for all Africans.

When and where will Move Afrika take place?

"The inaugural edition of Move Afrika, titled Move Afrika: Rwanda, is scheduled to be held on December 6, 2023, at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. Kendrick Lamar will be the main headliner for the event, and pgLang will act as the curator of Move Afrika for the next five years, from 2023 until 2028. Further regional artists will be announced shortly. Move Afrika has joined forces with the Rwanda Development Board, and Kigali will host the festival every year for the next five years. The tour schedule aims to expand to five countries by 2025, with additional countries being added each year."
