Ab-Soul dropped by On the Radar Radio shortly before his new album Soul Burger is released Friday, November 8. Dressed in a Burberry jacket and dark glasses, the Carson, California native compared himself to Eminem in a freestyle, which has raised an eyebrow or two.

"Get ready for the coup de grâce, who am I? / Marshall Mathers with melanin / Kept it G even when I’m embellishing," spits Soulo.

His freestyle comes on the heels of a joint XXL interview he did with A$AP Ferg and Sauce Walka about the importance of lyricism in modern-day hip-hop. The way Ab sees it, people need to be more open minded when judging rap lyrics.

"The beauty in being a creative or a artist in general — not even just hip-hop, but just an artist in any respect — it's all subjective," Ab explained. "Somebody gonna argue you down of why your favorite artist is the weakest, and that's why this whole thing is beautiful. It's so subjective. It's all perspective, it's community, it's a cypher, it opens a dialogue, it opens a conversation, it keeps the conversation going."

Earlier this week, Ab shared the tracklist for Soul Burger. It's 15 tracks long and features include his TDE label mate Doechii, Vince Staples, Ty Dolla $ign, Lupe Fiasco, and Punch, TDE's president. The LP is said to be dedicated to Ab's late friend Armon "DoeBurger" Stringer, who's featured on it posthumously. Stringer was killed in 2021 during a home invasion.

"I just been trying to channel him and my best way of doing that is through the music, hence the title," Ab recently told DJ head about the new album. "It’s the fusion of me and him. We was literally Huey and Riley from The Boondocks ... To where this album is not me, it’s Soul Burger. That’s not me. It’s like a new artist. It’s not a Ab-Soul project, it’s a Soul Burger project."
