Ferg explains why he decided to open up about being molested as a child on new album

Ferg's latest album DAROLD is here. It arrived last week on Friday, November 8. There's one song on the album titled "Pool," where he opens up about being molested at 9 years old in a swimming pool.

Surely, it's not everyday that a rapper gets candid about child molestation, but Ferg believes the song could help others.

"It took me eight years to write 'Pool,'" he said during a recent stop at The Breakfast Club. "It was three songs that I had wrote to get to that point. So, I wrote a song called 'We Don't Judge' ... And then I wrote another song called 'Innocent Child,' which was like three different stories about three different people. The last story was mines."

Ferg then said one of his friends encouraged him to open up about his experience. "We got into the studio and he was like, 'Bro, you inching towards it and you're scratching the surface in this song 'Innocent Child,' when you need to really just dive in and just go crazy.'"

Ferg later spoke more about what he faced as a child but said he didn't want to give too many details and would rather have people listen to the song. But the 36-year-old did say that he was groped by an older individual while others were around. He first told his cousin about it, then eventually his mother, who was shocked and apologetic.

As for Ferg's new album, some might notice that he dropped the A$AP from his name. Ferg explained that he wanted to release his projects as an individual, not as someone known to be part of the A$AP rap collective. He also said the name change signifies a new era in his career.
