Kendrick Lamar's song "Not Like Us" had a clean sweep at the Grammys on Sunday, winning Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.
Some might say the Grammy wins only confirm that Kendrick defeated Drake in their battle. Ye, known formerly as Kanye West, has his own issues with Drake, and he spoke about Kendrick beating the OVO rapper during an interview with Justin LaBoy.
Ye played a portion of the conversation last night at a Grammy afterparty, where he also spoke about feeling competitive pressure from Drake's song "Work," featuring Rihanna. On top of that, the Chicago rapper compared Drake to a superhero in a movie.
“Just goes away for a couple films," he said, meaning Drake should lay low for a while before staging a comeback. “I’m like d--n, man, it was really challenging for me to make ‘Father Stretch My Hands’ and different things and then you’ve got ‘Work.’ Like, top five songs ever created in life. We doing the drums and bringing Metro on.”
LaBoy then asked Ye if Kendrick "killed" Drake, and Ye said he did, but Drake could still redeem himself.
“Yeah, for now," said Ye about Kendrick killing Drake's career. “You can’t ever count out Steph Curry. That man might get 200 points in one song or something. You know what it was is, like, look at the Tyler, the Creator freestyle that he did. ‘That Guy,’ right? Drake added something to the algorithm, to our frequency. He advanced us. Future advanced us. And now, Kendrick has advanced the frequency.”
“It’s like when Twista came out," Ye continued. 'There was rappers that didn’t learn but then Jay-Z learned that you could do it. If you don’t really learn as just a professional rapper, as a sport, what Kendrick is doing, you might be wiped. You might be wiped out.”
