The hip-hop world is buzzing after Dr. Dre’s recent proclamation that Eminem is the “best emcee ever.” But not everyone is nodding in agreement. Benzino, the outspoken Boston native and rap veteran, has stepped up to challenge Dre’s bold assertion.

The controversy unleashed

During an appearance on The Life of Mine With James Corden, Dr. Dre didn’t mince words.

"I think he’s the best MC ever,” Dre declared, referring to Eminem. “Of course, there are going to be arguments about that because he’s a white guy. I don’t think anyone that’s rapping can touch Eminem on that microphone."

The statement sent shockwaves through the industry, igniting debates across social media platforms. But Benzino, who has a long-standing feud with Eminem, wasn’t about to let it slide.

Benzino’s counterpunch

In an exclusive Instagram post, Benzino fired back.

"You know I think Dr. Dre is one of the greatest producers of all time, he wrote. And notice I didn’t say Hip Hop producers. But this is an insult to Cube, REN, Snoop, Doc, and every other rapper who wrote all those hits, emphasized the Boston native. I mean this is his opinion and I respect it but c’mon Dre."

Eminem, 50 Cent, honoree Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg attended the Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Ceremony for Dr. Dre on March 19, 2024, in Hollywood, California.

This isn’t the first time Benzino and Eminem have clashed. Their longstanding feud has resulted in rap disses from both men, with Eminem recently firing shots on “Doomsday 2” from Lyrical Lemonade’s All Is Yellow compilation project. Benzino, on the other hand, responded with his track “Vulturius,” where he didn’t hold back.

In the ongoing battle of words, one thing is clear: the hip-hop community won’t be settling this debate anytime soon. Whether Eminem truly wears the crown as the “best emcee ever” remains a hot topic, and fans continue to weigh in on social media.
