In the first half of 2024, much of the hip-hop discourse centered around Drake's beef with a long list of rappers, including Rick Ross, Future, Metro Boomin, A$AP Rocky, and of course Kendrick Lamar, who he battled with.

But another beef, which seemed to exist in the shadows of the Drake, Kendrick spat, was between Latto and Ice Spice. Ice talked about it in a new Rolling Stone interview and expressed confusion about their disagreement.

Going back, one of the first signs of tension between the two ladies came in the spring of 2023 when Latto was accused of copying the cover of Ice's EP, Like..? in a social media post. "I don’t like how y’all take my tweets & make them fit ur weak a*s narratives," Latto tweeted then. At that point, talk of beef between the rappers was just that, talk, but that would change soon after.

That's because when Ice dropped her Like..? EP, she delivered two songs that seemed to reference Latto's single "Put It on da Floor." "Where she at? On the floor / She gettin’ money, but I’m gettin’ more," rapped Ice on "Butterfly Ku." Then on the song "How High?," Ice seemed to diss Latto again. "Now she all on the floor when I kick in the door / How you mad I do less ’cause you gotta do more?" spit The Bronx rapper.

"Where she at? On the floor / She gettin' money, but I'm gettin' more."

Then it was Latto's turn to throw a sneak diss, which she did on Offset's song "Fine As Can Be" by referencing Ice's hit song "Munch (Feelin’ U)." But the biggest sign that the two women were officially beefing is when Ice dropped her single, "Think U The S**t (Fart)?," and brought up Latto's "Put It on da Floor" song again. “I got my foot on they necks, I can’t let up / She all on the floor, told her get up," rapped Ice.

But if there's one thing about Latto, she knows how to handle herself in competition, seeing she won the first season of Lifetime's The Rap Game, a show where artists duke it out musically. So, she came right back with her song "Sunday Service." "Think I’m the s**t, b****h, I know it, h* / Jesus walked on water, I got Ice boilin’ though."

"Jesus walked on water, I got Ice boilin,' though."

The rappers' fans got involved in the beef as well, because when Ice promoted "Think U the S**t (Fart)" with a promo truck in Latto's town of Atlanta, Latto's fans vandalized it by writing the name of her album 777 and the words "Stream Sunday Service."

Things simmered between the women after that, but sparked back up in June of this year when Latto's friends gave her a cake shaped as a poop emoji. The gift, which was a clear reference to Ice's "Think U The S**t (Fart)" song, was given after Latto was named the first female artist to ever headline Birthday Bash ATL, a concert thrown by radio station Hot 107.9.

Ice talked about that cake in her Rolling Stone interview and accused the Atlanta-raised rapper of stretching out their beef unnecessarily. Ice also said whatever is going on between her and Latto isn't that serious. Her comments come after Latto spoke to Billboard earlier this month, and suggested the New York rapper isn't equipped lyrically to have a full-on rap battle with her.

"I feel like if we ever spoke and I asked her, ‘What’s the issue?’ It’d be like a blank stare. It’d really be no issue whatsoever. Especially from me,” Ice explained. "I can understand a friendly competition, but I just feel like at this point it’s a joke that she’s just dragged out, and it’s just not even funny. Like, bro, 'Think U the S**t' is from January.

She continued. “You’re going to post a piece of s**t cake to announce something that’s good news for you? But it is kind of a compliment because you’re taking something that’s supposed to be a fun moment for you and you’re making it about me … again."

Now, where this beef goes from here remains to be seen. Who knows? Maybe the two ladies will settle their disagreement and jump on a song together. We'll have to see.
