Hip-Hop fans came into 2023 expecting some big artists to be releasing albums, some of which would break long hiatuses between releases. Travis Scott, J. Cole, A$AP Rocky, Cardi B, and Lil Uzi Vert are just a few of hip-hop's biggest stars that fans everywhere were anxiously awaiting albums from in 2023. If this year follows the same trend as 2022, many of the biggest hip-hop album releases will come late in the spring and during the summer.
The most anticipated confirmed & rumored hip-hop albums of summer 2023
In 2022, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, Future, and many other rap artists broke 2+ calendar year hiatuses by dropping hard-hitting albums during the late spring and summer. It would be great if we could get some other hip-hop and R&B artists that we haven't heard from in a long time (looking at you Frank Ocean) to break their hiatuses by dropping big albums heading into the summer of 2023.
Some of the albums we've included on this list already have set release dates, some have been announced without a set release, and some are just speculation. Here's a look at some of the most highly-anticipated albums of the summer of 2023.
Kaytramine by Amine
If you're a fan of Kaytranada and/or Amine, you won't have to wait very long for a new project. The highly-anticipated collab project between rapper Amine and alternative R&B producer KAYTRANADA is set to drop on May 19. Fans have already gotten a taste of what's to come from this dynamic hip-hop/R&B duo, with two of the lead singles that have dropped from the project so far.
"4EVA" was the first single to drop from KAYTRAMINÉ, on April 7. This track was a smooth and melodic jam with some touches of R&B and house production from KAYTRANADA and Pharrell Williams. The second single from this album cycle "Rebuke" dropped on May 15, just a few days before the project releases on streaming services. "Rebuke" was another smooth hit with a fantastic instrumental and all-around great production from KAYTRANADA.
There are high expectations for this project, especially with a tracklist stacked with big-name features. The feature list ranges from hip-hop veterans Freddie Gibbs and Snoop Dogg to the on-the-rise R&B artist Amaarae.
KAYTRAMINÉ has high expectations from the Hip-Hop community, especially for those that loved the two-lead singles from this project that have dropped since early April.
