Tekashi 6ix9ine speaks about his new $6 million record deal in new interview

Earlier this week, it was reported that Tekashi 6ix9ine inked a deal with Kartel Music for $6 million, and he spoke about it in a new interview with TMZ.

Tekashi said the label didn't give him an actual record deal but a contract based on playing shows. "It’s not a record deal," he specified. "It’s an exclusive tour deal that I’m doing in Central America, South America, United States, and Mexico, like, the exclusivity deal."

Harvey Levin then asked him if the deal involves a new album. "Yeah, but the album belongs to them, to Kartel Music, because it’s like Mexican regional music … It’s nothing hip-hop," Tekashi explained.

Elsewhere in the interview, the "FEFE" creator said he's already done well in the U.S. rap market and plans to do the same in Latin music, because God gave him the talent to be successful in both areas.

But there's a clause in Tekashi's contract that says he'll have to stay away from online beef and legal trouble, which he believes won't be a problem. "If you know 6ix9ine, you know, like, I’m squeaky clean," he said. "I stay out of trouble. It’s just trouble seems its way to find me all the time."

In 2019 Tekashi began working with federal prosecutors in their case against his former gang the Nine Trey Gangsters. He was eventually given a two year prison sentence after being charged with racketeering, but got an early release when COVID-19 hit since he has chronic asthma.

But Tekashi found himself in more trouble because he was attacked in a Florida gym in 2023. Then later that year, he was arrested in the Dominican Republic after being accused of assaulting two local producers. He was also arrested for domestic violence earlier this year for allegedly assaulting his now-ex girlfriend, singer Yailín la Más Viral.
