Tyler, The Creator was one of the many surprise guests at Kendrick Lamar's Pop Out show in June. The concert took place at Kia Forum in Inglewood, California and was more or less Kendrick's victory lap for defeating Drake in their battle.

The former Odd Future leader performed "WusYaName," off his Call Me If You Get Lost album, as well as "Earfquake," off his Igor LP. Tyler spoke to Billboard about the Pop Out concert in a new interview and said he initially wasn't scheduled to perform. But he had to be there, despite being busy working on his Chromakopia album.

"I wasn’t even supposed to go. I was in Atlanta working on this album," he explained. "But I landed that morning and couldn’t miss this s–t. And I don’t even get FOMO at all ... I’ll go to sleep. But I’m cool with Kenny and Dave and Tim from Free Lunch. So I went home, showered and ran straight there."

Elsewhere in the interview, the 33-year-old talked about a problem that a lot of successful artists face: Having fans that want him to make the same kind of music he made years ago.

For example, fans have been screaming for Nas to return to his Illmatic ways for three decades now. And some expect Eminem to be the same artist he was in his days of The Slim Shady LP. But Tyler said he won't revert to a previous version of himself just to appease fans.

"I’m not who they were introduced to at 20," he stated. "I’m not even who I was a year ago. When they’re like, 'I want the old version,' I know it’s because they’re still there. But I’m not. And I’m OK with it because my identity doesn’t rest in a version of myself."
