While Jay-Z has called the claim that he drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl in 2000 ludicrous, others like Meek Mill and Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg have already come to his defense. Charlamagne tha God did as well.
He spoke about Jay Monday, December 9, on The Breakfast Club and said oftentimes the person making the claim doesn't face consequences if it turns out that he or she is lying. It was a point that Breakfast Club co-host DJ Envy made first, and Charlamagne piggybacked off his words.
"You hear the initial accusation but you don't ever see when the case gets dropped. You don't see when the case actually gets dismissed," Charlamagne explained at the 54:23 mark of his show. "I'm telling you, all of this stuff is a grift. It's complete foolishness. They do this all the time. They'll have the lawyer reach out to your team and they'll tell your team, 'We're gonna do a press conference. We're gonna have interviews if you don't settle with us.' Most people settle. You'd be surprised how many people do settle."
When Rosenberg addressed the lawsuit, he and his co-host brought up how quickly the Brooklyn rapper responded. According to Hot 97's Ebro Darden, he issued his statement 31 minutes after news of the suit went public.
"My guess he was ," said Rosenberg. "Jay-Z is aware of the conversations that happens. And a lot of people have been waiting and praying on his downfall. So my guess is, he wrote that fresh, but my guess is he was prepared that someone was going to shoot their shot."
Reportedly, Tony Buzbee, the lawyer who filed the suit against Jay, reached out to his team last week and wanted him to settle. But Jay said he refuses to give his accuser money when addressing the suit in a statement.
