The year 2024 was great for hip-hop. We got to enjoy several tremendous albums, some artists finally brought their classic mixtapes to streaming platforms, and two of the biggest rappers of their generation engaged in a memorable rap beef. It could be said that hip-hop needed a run like that, so fans have no complaints.
In terms of numbers, 2024 was refreshing for hip-hop. IFPI, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, recently released its annual report and hip-hop is being represented by Drake, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar — as all three artists have earned a spot in the top 10.
The Top 20 IFPI Global Recording Artist Chart 2024 is topped by Taylor Swift. As per the official website, the list is prepared by taking into account the “consumption of an artist’s entire catalogue across all formats, including physical album sales, downloads and streaming across both free and paid platforms.”
Drake has secured the number 2 spot, becoming the highest-selling male artist in the world in 2024, without releasing an album last year. In the previous year, Drake was ranked number 4. In fact, the Canadian superstar has held his spot as the highest-selling rapper on the list for the past 10 years. Drake is followed by rap legend Eminem, who has secured the 8th position on this list.

Lamar is placed at number 9 on the list. The Compton rapper had been missing from the list since 2022, but a dream run in hip-hop has brought him back. Other than these three, two more rappers have found a spot in the top 20. Travis Scott is ranked 15th, and Kanye West has taken the 16th spot this year.
