Ja Rule and Drake have at least one thing in common: They were universally adored until their respective rap beefs changed everything for them. For Ja's part, he saw huge mainstream success in the late '90s and early aughts by making pop leaning hip-hop songs that were a mainstay on radio.
Similarly, Drake blended pop and hip-hop to achieve massive success, but his reputation and brand suffered damage when he lost a battle to Kendrick Lamar, then filed a lawsuit.
Ja spoke about the Drake, Kendrick battle in a recent interview with Hot 97's TT Torrez and said he totally understands what Drake is going through.
“Drake’s in a position right now — and I know this position well — he’s in a position where two plus two is like adding up to seven, and he just doesn’t understand," Ja explained. "He’s like how can I be the hottest motherf****r for 10 years, and now everybody wants me to lose. So, he’s not understanding the dynamic of that … It’s crazy because it’s a cultural thing more than it is a hip-hop thing.”
Ja then said that even though a hit record could change everything for Drake, getting back to his position of musical dominance might be difficult, because he believes that people are tired of seeing his success.
The New York rapper used a sports analogy to make his point, saying that people are tired of seeing Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl, and Drizzy is experiencing the same thing.
