UMG rips Drake in new court filing, says he's only suing because he lost to Kendrick Lamar

It was Drake who made the first serious allegation.

Universal Music Group filed new documents in federal court today, Monday, March 17, and they blasted Drake for suing them over Kendrick Lamar's diss song "Not Like Us." Drake is suing the label for defamation, saying it promoted "Not Like Us," even though Kendrick falsely claims he's a pedophile.

UMG says that Drake is ignoring his part in the battle, because it was he who released the first diss song in "Push Ups," then goaded Kendrick to respond. Drake was also the first to take personal shots, as opposed to keeping the battle about music.

Remember, without providing evidence, Drizzy claimed that Kendrick abused the mother of his children, Whitney Alford. He also said that Kendrick's business partner Dave Free is the real father of her children. But the Canadian rapper still sued UMG for being called a pedophile, which the label finds hypocritical.

"Drake has been pleased to use UMG's platform to promote tracks leveling similarly incendiary attacks at Lamar, [and he chose to sue] after losing the rap battle," wrote UMG. "[The suit also] disregards the other Drake and Lamar diss tracks that surrounded 'Not Like Us,' as well as the conventions of the diss track genre, and, thus, critically ignores the context of the dispute."

Both Drake and Kendrick are under the UMG umbrella, by the way, which makes this whole thing a little more complex. Plus, the label said that a lot of rap pundits declared Kendrick the winner of their battle, which upset Drake.
