There's a very good chance that Freddie Gibbs is about to drop new music. Yesterday, he sent a message on Instagram Stories that read, "It's almost about that time." He then posted a message on Twitter with the words, "I love when we pick up where we left off🐰❤️."
The tweet could mean that Freddie is linking back up with either Madlib, who produced their stellar 2019 album Bandana or The Alchemist, who crafted the beats for their critically acclaimed 2020 LP Alfredo.
Musically, it's been somewhat of a slow go for Freddie. His last album was Soul Sold Separately in 2022. One theory is that he needed a break after dropping music since he released three projects so close together.
Another theory is that Freddie has been behind the scenes solely working on music after getting into a huge beef with Benny The Butcher. The Buffalo rapper and Freddie used to be close collaborators, each appearing on each other's projects. But their relationship went south in 2022 after Benny said working with Freddie "came and went" during an interview.
The Indiana rapper didn't care for the comment and laid into Benny on social media. "N---a said, 'Freddie Gibbs came and went.' N---a, I know some other s--t that came and went," said Freddie. "Just keep my name out your mouth when you talking to people who are doing interviews. Just say next question I don't want to talk about that."
That response led to Freddie getting jumped by an incredibly large group of people while eating at a Buffalo restaurant. He later spoke about the incident and downplayed it saying, "I’ve been in way worse situations than that. I can’t control if you bring 30 people to a restaurant with a camera crew to humiliate me but you end up losing."
But hopefully, Freddie is done beefing with Benny and is just focusing on music, which again, seems to be the case due to his recent messages.
