Questlove goes into fan mode after being tapped for De La Soul's 'Oodles of O’s' video

Questlove has accomplished a lot in his career, but he's still blown away that he's one of the stars in the video for De La Soul's 1991 song "Oodles of O’s."

The video was shot in July at De La's "Oodles of O’s" pop-up event where people like Common, A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip, Masta Ace, and DJ Tony Touch stopped by. In his post about the video, Quest broke the news to his younger self, and explained that "Oodles of O’s" inspired him to get a record deal.

"Astral traveling to another earth to tell my 20 year old self 'remember the first song on the album that floored you so much that you and your friend from high school started getting serious about getting a record deal. Good news! you’ll get a record deal in less than 2 years!!!" wrote Quest Tuesday on Instagram. "But nevermind—-your life will truly begin some 31 years FROM THIS MOMENT…..——can ya hang on that long?"

"I’m just playing, sike im kidding, it’s really going to take you THREE DECADES dawg…..I know it’s a b****h but at least you’ll be here with us," he continued. "I mean back in 91 it’s not as rampant but let’s just say after 97? EVERYTHING IS CHANGING ……pssssh you won’t EVEN believe what happens with him!——-wait wait wait you’re messing this up lemme break the news!!!———-YOU are going to be in the video for 'Oodles Of O’s'!!!!!' You will shoot it some 33 years later after its release but d----it it was worth the wait!"

Surely, Questlove isn't the only person who's thrilled to finally see a video for De La's song. But since group member David "Trugoy the Dove" Jolicoeur died in 2023 at age 54 it's probably bittersweet.

There hasn't been a cause of death revealed, but in the video for De La Soul's song "Royalty Capes," Jolicoeur talked about needing to wear a LifeVest defibrillator machine after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
