Tim Westwood was a prominent hip-hop DJ who worked for BBC Radio 1 in England. That was until 2022 when BBC News and the Guardian did a joint investigation about Westwood being accused of sexual misconduct.
At the time, several women spoke to the publications and accused the disgraced DJ of predatory behavior, plus, making unwanted sexual advances between 1992-2017. All the women who spoke to BBC and the Guardian are Black, saying they met Westwood through his DJ job.
Westwood is now being compared to Diddy because British authorities have conducted their own investigation and submitted their findings to the Crown Prosecution Service. CPS makes the decision whether to prosecute an individual after police hand in their evidence.
Of course, the Diddy comparison has to do with the Bad Boy founder being arrested in September for sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting prostitutes.
"A file of evidence has now been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and our team continues to make enquiries, with support from prosecutors," said Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy in a statement published by BBC News." We will thoroughly and properly investigate sexual offenses as part of our commitment to making London safer for women and girls."
CPS also released a statement. “We can confirm we received a file from the Metropolitan Police Service regarding allegations of non-recent sexual offenses allegedly committed by a man in his 60s.”
Plus, police said they've spoken to Westwood four times in their investigation, explaining the alleged offenses happened in London between 1982-2016. Westwood has always denied wrongdoing, but he still stepped down from his Capital Xtra show in 2022.
"Any suggestion that he acts, or has acted, in the way described would be false and seriously defamatory," his lawyers once said, according to Variety.
All of Westwood's accusers said they were either groped by him or were victims of predatory behavior. Some of those women said they were in their late teens when it occurred, others said they were in their early 20s.
