Call it proficiency from prison.
On Monday, June 2, Gucci Mane announced the release of five new projects set to release this year – all while the rapper is currently serving a lengthy jail sentence that could keep him behind bars until at least 2016. The announcement came through his label, 1017 Records, via a short audio clip of Gucci’s voice posted to SoundCloud.
In just 53 seconds, one of hip-hop’s most endearing characters managed to create hype for a quintet of albums, all from some of the most popular trap-rap artists in 2014.
Slated first is a trio of albums from Atlanta-bred rappers Guwop has helped guide to mainstream exposure. June 17 will bring the release of The Purple Album by Young Thug, The White Album by PeeWee Longway, and The Green Album from Migos. Gucci is calling this simultaneous releases the “World War 3D Series”, apparently a continuation of the unprecedented mixtape series.
A few weeks later, Gucci will drop his own aptly-titled album, Trap House 4, with an official release date of July 4. Finally, September 13 will bring the release of Gucci’s Trap God 3 mixtape.
This summer is a guarantee to be flooded with more music from 1017 artists, and the incarcerated CEO is well aware.
“Even though I’m locked up, I’m still running the streets from jail,” says Gucci near the end of the audio clip.
