This is just a 10 second snippet, but it looks as though there may be a Nas and Frank Ocean track hidden away somewhere, that was supposed to find its way onto Nas’ Life is Good. Damn.
Here’s how it went down via Pitchfork:
Hit-Boy has shared a snippet of a long-lost Nas song called “No Such Thing As White Jesus”, which features Frank Ocean singing the line, “Put a crown on your head and remove the chains”. The producer shared the clip via his Instagram, with the caption, “Found these files finally. For real this time. Frank ocean whattup.” No word yet on when the finished song is coming out, but check out the teaser below.
According to MTV, “No Such Thing as White Jesus” was originally supposed to be on Nas’ Life Is Good LP– and according to the New York Times, it was “unfortunately lost to a technological mishap”. (Hurray for backup systems!) According to the report, the song contains the lines, “Whatever you do, young king, don’t wind up dead/ Young queen, cross your legs/ Put a crown on your head and remove the chains/ ’Cause even diamond chains are for slaves/ Don’t set foot in no penitentiary/ And don’t taste the poison/ Don’t you bail on your families”.
And, here’s the tiny, 11 second snippet of music that is apparently no longer a full work. Let’s hope that at some point, we’re able to unveil the song and listen to it in its entirety. For now, all we’ll have is small sample:
