The Roots have always been a personal favorite of mine, and this song is anything but an exception.
This jazzy/avant-garde new track features the wonderful Patty Crash, who sings the chorus and provides an eery dark undertone to an otherwise jazzy feel. Black Thought’s lyrics are as on-point as ever, though he only participates in the song for a single verse. The song is mainly instrumental with a good chunk of Patty Crash’s excellent vocals.
This track is from the new album, …And Then You Shot Your Cousin.
Anyone looking for a Black Thought lyrical guitar solo should look elsewhere, but this is fantastic music, and a great. balanced blend of ambiguous genres put together perfectly.
