Janelle Monáe’s musical influences are all over the place, and it’s pretty awesome. Take her first album for example: how many artists are able to feature Big Boi and Of Montreal on the same album, within just a few songs of eachother? It’s a very small number.
Monáe’s interest in rock music has become more than apparent over the years, and her covering a David Bowie classic on last night’s David Letterman shouldn’t surprise anybody. As usual, she brings it in this video, and remains an artist that is near the top of my list of artists I want to see in-person. It seems like she never runs out of energy.
