The hip hop world was overwhelmed with highly anticipated albums last summer, from Kanye West’s Yeezus, Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail, and Drake’s Nothing Was The Same, amongst others. This summer would belong to Lil Wayne and his Tha Carter V album whenevver he decides to drop it.

There were originally rumors that he would drop it on May 5th, Cinco de Mayo. That would’ve made sense for the 5/5 date for Tha Carter V. Recently he said it would be released either this month or next.

“I think it drops either in September…and then we have…ah I can’t tell you the sneak thing,” Wayne said, via BET. “Anyway, yeah, I think it drops in September, or August, I don’t know.”

We have gotten a sneak peak at some of the music coming off the album, including the track “Krazy.” He has also released a music video for the track, which has him in an insane asylum and a straight jacket. He also raps from an electric chair. It is interesting, his Young Money labelmate Nicki Minaj did a psychiatric ward themed video with B.o.B. for “Outta My Mind,” though the videos aren’t necessarily similar in any regard. The Game also picked this kind of setting for the “Martians vs Goblin” video which featured a Lil Wayne sample in the chorus, though he didn’t appear in the video.
